1. In the first century BCE what rights did a freeborn Roman women enjoy? What was her role and status in society?

The freeborn Roman women were citizens but they could not vote for governmental figures and have a say in society, or hold political roles. Even though women did not have roles in government, some did come from wealthy family they could and did give there opinions privately. And even though those few individuals had a "say" in society it did not really make a difference in society for the Romans. Even though those few women came from wealthy family and had some what of an opinion in society there was a big amount of them that did not have the opportunity to do that.

The Roman women did not really have a say in when or if they wanted to get a divorced or to remarry someone because it was all the man's choice. If a man was to just run off and just leave her she is still technically married and she can not do anything about it. She is stuck being like that and living at that house and not able to do anything at all about her being married. Women could not leave there homes or husband's or they would get in trouble and sentence to death. Women had a minor roll in society and didn't really have a say, they were one step above slaves.

Find a part of the world where slavery still exist. Why does slavery continue there?

One country that slavery still exist is Africa. To people when they think about slavery they always go back to the United States during the Civil War and how slavery was then. The slavery then was cruel and the slave owners treated the slaves horribly. When it comes to slavery in Africa yes they are seen as property but others see them as dependents and people who will eventually join there family. In some society's in Africa the slaves are allowed to join the military forces which is not often seen in other society's.

Another area involving slavery in Africa is that is first got started by the Arab Muslims and Europeans not the Africans themselves but later on it also went to them. The origins of slavery in Africa started with the Egyptians they would raid neighboring villages and take people to be there slaves there and work for them. Some roles of the slaves are/were to trade and spin and dye the cotton and farm and herd animals those were the main jobs for the slaves.

Why it is still continued there is because of the different classes they have and the wealth of some people. Also prisoners of war with all of the civil wars breaking out over in Africa they are taken and are to become there slaves and work for them and do what ever task is needed to be done.

Do you think the people of Limerick are being fair in their judgment?
I think that they are being fair in how they are judging it. Because they are taking it into view as if that is how the whole town is like and how the lifestyle is normally there but he is just describing how he lived his life and is not taking word for everyone else in that town. So yes I think they are right in there judgment but also no because this is Franks personal story and not all of theirs so they need to open there mind and think a little on what he is really saying.


How would your friends and neighbors react if a book like McCourts came out about your area?
All of my friends and neighbors would have different views on what I would have to say about the area, why I say this is because I would no give good comments about this area because I do not like the school systems all around and or the area in general. But someone might disagree because they may think other wise it is completely there own opinion.

Maya Angelou finishing school

Yes I have taken classes that do nothing for my adult life. Of course everyone has in there life. For me it has been the ridiculous math classes they have us take. Some of the other ones is history or science classes. But this view can change with everyone. To me the math classes and science classes do not involve my adult life of what I want to do. But to other people those class are very important and are needed in life. So yes to me I have taken classes that do not help for preparations in my adult life but there are others that do help me.

1. The details in the photograph is the flag that of course represents America, there is also the date of when it happen, they put stars on this mural to most likely represent the stars on the flag. How each of these details are arranged is where they are placed and most likely what was first in the artistes mind, for example the flag is the biggest part and seems like the first thing that he painted so most likely the flag for America was the first thing on his mind and the rest just followed.

2. The photographer dominant impression is probably that even though this disaster has happen her that life will still run free and there will always be happiness and love and hope. How he shows this is having the mural in the picture of course and the girls running in front of it.

3. I think that the photographer is placing an objective view on this mural. Why I say this because anyone who looks at this will have a different opinion on it.

Arthur Miller "Are you now or were you Ever?"

1. He did this through his play by showing people what it was like back in the 1600s during the Salem witch trials and all of the judgement and and accusations of being a witch, just like it was during McCarthy's age when he was making accusations of being communist. So he is showing them what it was like back then to time now.

2. That they had truths that they have not acknowledged the truth in front of them. Why Paul Robeson's testimony went "through the roof" is because on his declaration of faith in socialism as a cure for the racism in society.

3. This deals with peoples individuality and what they think and feel and it brings freedom out in them.

4. That there are always temptations are always around the corner for people and it can get them in trouble. Why this is vital for them to remember is that people always have to be on there toes for temptations.

Writing Workshop Pg 132 "Shooting an Elephant"

1. When I was standing up for the what I believe in about Gay marriage I felt like Orwell did and that was a puppet to the system. I felt that no matter how much I believed in this subject that I would always get back into a very quiet shell of mine. I would not want that to happen but it always did because I did not want to seem weird and be judged by others who did not believe in what I believe in. So I kept quiet and told people that I thought Gay marriage was so wrong and that I  did not like it. This went against all that I believed in.

2. What I learned about not hiding that I thought Gay marriage is right is that there are many people that have the same thoughts as me. I was able to see this and open up more for people about what and I thought. I was able to not only open up to people that I some what know I could open up to society and people I did not know and tell them what I thought and see if they had the same feelings as me.

3. Orwell is where he is at and does not like the way that the British are treating these people and he kept getting sucked back into the system of what the British had made. He then traveled to find an Elephant that people said was killing people and so he went on and looked. He then felt connected to the Elephant and could not shoot him but he had so many people watching him and he could not help but shoot this animal for these people.

Journal Entry September 13 2011 "Shooting an Elephant"

No I do not think that Orwell is a coward for what he did. He was put under pressure and did not know what else to do except for shoot the Elephant for these people that were watching him. I do not think he was racist because of how he saw these people in his eyes. He saw them in a interested way and not a way of saying what is this scum they are different from me and he did not like it. He took them generously and acted and treated them like normal people, like they were exactly like him.

1. I think that the government that commands my respect is the one that I find most beneficial and is doing the most for its citizens

2 A) "That government is best which governs not at all"

B) Because he thinks that the people need to govern themselves more and not have higher powers do it for them

3 A) The one that people execute their own will

B) We the citizens have more of a say in the government

4 A)  To speak as a citizen unlike the people who speak that call themselves government men

B) Yes he does because he has a view coming from his point of view as a citizens

5 A) I would not argue with his objections because he has very good ideas about government

B) That today's government is corrupted and needs to have some stability in it

1. In today's society people are more likely to keep to themselves and solve there own problems then go to other people first to help them.

2. A) The term that Emerson uses to describe society today is joint-stock company and how he uses this is saying that the members (people in society) agree for the better securing of his bread to each shareholder.

B) That today people come together to secure a better living for each other.

C) That yes they may be misunderstood but they should still be true to themselves and what they believe in

3. A) That they all we judged and misunderstood for what they thought what right.

B) He gives names of famous people in history that are very great in what they did in there life and have been misunderstood

4 A) That to think consistency no one will go anywhere with just that one thought

B) No because in life there is no consistency things are always changing

5 A) Because they are religious figures and to some people they are pre-destination to where they are going in life

B) To do what they love in life and not be afraid of being judged by others

6. I would use "To be great is to be misunderstood" why I would use this is because I want to try and be great and go through with my dreams in life even if I am misunderstood

Journal Entry September 6th 2011

The Vulture and Spider-Man are at war with each other again. The Vulture has seemed to have trapped Spider-Man in some type of metal crate fill with water. The Vulture has seemed to think that he has trapped Spider-Man and because of that he will be able to do and get away with what he has planed to do. The Vulture is flying away off in the distance to do horrible things to the city and Spider-man realizes that he is trapped in this water filled crate and he is trying to find ways to get out of he will either drown or suffocate. Spider-man is going to find a way out of the trap he is in and save the city and put The Vulture where he blongs.
